Portrait Club

These classes are suitable for all abilities and everyone is encouraged to attend. We offer tuition guiding you through a structured approach to rendering the model which is ideal for complete beginners who are often daunted at the thought of portraiture. The Poets Corner at Hillhead Bookclub offers a characterful and intimate setting with a relaxed atmosphere and over the course of the two hours there will be a range of short and long poses with breaks. These sessions will include all materials but feel free to bring along your own favourite supplies to work with!

The Hillhead Bookclub has a bar for refreshments and those attending the class can also take advantage of {Meat Free Monday} 25% discount for all veggie & vegan food.

As this is a smaller venue we advise buying in advance through the ticket link to avoid disappointment!

Positive Shapes - Life Modelling Workshop

Drawing Life has been supporting the growing number of life models working in the city, introducing at least 1 new model monthly at our First Thursday events.

We often get asked how to become a life model, and we try to give everyone who is interested in pursuing it a chance to experience it in a friendly and safe atmosphere with the help of our tutors and models to support those starting out.  At this model training workshop, we will work closely with you and a small group of new models. Any of our first time models are welcome to come and join us for free to hone in on their poses and will be able to share their experience of working with us with you.

The session will be a social and friendly event that is designed to give everyone an insight into what it is like to be a model, health and safety and how to contact art classes to become a model with them, run by Drawing Life and an experienced model.

The first part of the workshop (6:30-8) is clothed and we will spend a 90mins with you demonstrating poses, playing games which help us interact with our bodies and seeing how we can all build our own style of modelling from the same instructions. After a break, we will give everyone who wants to continue a chance to model (8:20-9:30). With advice and encouragement throughout. This part of the session is-nude and we will NOT be taking photos. Anyone unsure if they would like to do the second nude part is welcome to leave during the break!

The workshop will cost £15 or £10 for students.

Mono Printed Model

Good news!

Drawing Life will be teaming up again with printing favourites Mobile Print Studio in June at CASS ART Glasgow.

We will be hosting two sessions of mono printing life drawing events on Sunday 23rd of June which will be fun and educational intros into this wonderfully versatile technique.

Each session will last 2.5hrs. First we will spend some time demonstrating how mono-printing works, giving you a chance to do some experimentation before we bring in a model to work from during a 2 hour period where you will be doing live printing.

Both sessions will be independent of one another, so you have the choice to just come to one or both for a full day of printing and drawing.

Mono printing is a great entry point for first-time printers, for it is a technique which derives from drawing and painting, allowing new and experienced artists to the medium the chance to draw from previous experiences.

Tickets for one session are £15 and for the whole day £25
Students and unemployed will get a 20% discount at £12 and £20

Tickets are available below. Alternatively, you can pay on the day, although we can't promise there will be space as this is a limited capacity event. Early booking is advised!
We look forward to seeing you there !

Stretch and Sketch with Alice Gray

Life drawing is about observing the human form and drawing the shapes that it creates. Yoga creates beautiful shapes that are both challenging and fun to draw. Both are moving meditations and a great way to relax and unlock creativity.

This three and a half-hour workshop will start with a 75 minute all level and experience Yin Yang yoga class led by yoga teacher Alice Gray.

The session will then follow with a life drawing session where participants will get to draw some of the postures that they have just experienced lead by both Alice and Drawing Life. Opportunity for tutoring will be available as the class goes along should you wish.

Stretch and Sketch is open to everyone - no yoga or artistic experience required. Refreshments, some yoga mats, props, and art materials are provided, but you are advised to bring along your own mat if you can. There will be both chair and floor seating for the life drawing section, so we recommend you bring along a couple of pillows for extra comfort.

11:00 doors open
11:30 - 12:45 Yoga class for 1hr and 15mins
12:45 - 13:00 break
13:00 - 15:00 life drawing with a 20min break

We welcome drop-ins to Life drawing but recommend booking for the yoga section as there will be limited space.

£15 for both Yoga and drawing
£8 for just yoga or life drawing.

The Big Draw

We have a full day of Life drawing events planned for you throughout the first day of June.

We will begin with an early morning life drawing session looking at movement. Drawing a dancer as they transition from pose to pose in a continues flow. these poses will be short and aimed at helping our drawers find the rhyme of the poses from one to the next and experiencing less control of line in hopes of finding new and exciting ways of exploring form.

We will follow up with a series of medium length poses, these poses will be parts of a larger idea which as drawers, you will be encouraged to use the idea of space and the model as they move from pose to pose. This session is designed not only to help the drawer realise a full composition but also help them become aware of space and the importance it has both on the page and all around them.

We will then finish the day with non stop 2 hour pose with two models.
You will be able to spend a full 2 hours drawing from one pose featuring two models.
Both models will take alternating breaks so there will always be a model present and to encourage drawers to work on a whole composition of two models rather then focus on just one.

The times are as follows

10:00 - 12:00 Movement with Dancer
13:00 - 15:00 Composition - Matisse's Dancers
16:00 - 18:00 Long pose with Duet

You may come to one, two or all three sessions.

For one session it will be £10, two £16 and £20 for the full day.
Students will get a discount at £8, £14 and £18

3 Hour Life Drawing

We are hosting a one off 3hr life drawing session from 7 pm in our studio in Partick on Tuesday the 14th May. This event is limited to 10-12 drawers as the studio can only accommodate small groups, so book in advance to avoid disappointment. This is a great chance to settle into a pose and experiment with techniques which require more time and attention than typical sketching.

At 7pm we will start drawing a model in warm up, shorter poses until 8pm. There will be a 20min break and then from about 8:20 - 10pm (including a few breaks for the model) we will work from one long pose.

Light refreshments provided.
